The first international film festival starts with the screening of the long-anticipated “Aika”, the film is about a young migrant, played by Kazakhstan’s actress Samal Yeslamova. What has forced the young woman to take a very difficult step, abandoning her child while living abroad?

Film director Sergey Dvortsevoy said that he wanted to touch a sensitive issue of Kyrgyz migrants in Russia.

“It is a very complicated social and psychological story, which cannot be told by the third party, the heroine speaks to the camera and audience by herself”, Mr.Dvortsevoy has mentioned.

In spite of the fact, that this film had was shown as a draft version at Cannes, it stunned the jury by its honesty, and acting of Ms. Yeslamova labeled as beyond “the edge of human abilities” rightfully won “the best actress” nomination.
The movie brings uneven feelings. For someone, it is the fear or anger, guilt or grievance, shame or sorrow…, but it will not leave you indifferent.
