Akan Satayev

Director and Producer of the Festival

Film director, actor, screenwriter and producer of Kazakhstan cinema.

One of the most commercially successful film directors in Kazakhstan.

Akan Satayev was born in Karaganda. He graduated from T.Zhurgenov Academy of Arts and got a film director degree.

In 2003, he founded the largest film studio to date – Sataifilm.

Over the following years, he made more than 10 feature films and over 300 commercials that were awarded prizes.

In 2012, Akan was awarded Honored Figure of Kazakhstan.

As of 2014, by popular vote he was recognized as the best figure of the film industry of Kazakhstan, becoming the winner of the National Award People’s Favorite of the Year. Akan is a multiple winner of the award Altyn Zhulyz. One of the director’s films Districts won the award at the Asian Film Festival CASA Asia in Barcelona, as well as the prizes of Tulpar 2017 National Award: Best Film, Best Directing, Best Screenplay, Best Actor and Best Music.

The film The Road to Mother was recognized as the best film in Central Asia within the VI National Film Award Ak Ilbirs in Bishkek. The film was shown at the 38th Moscow International Film Festival, as well as at the International Film Festival Eurasian Bridge, where it was awarded the Grand Prix, and the actress Altynai Nogerbek was awarded Best Actress. It was also recognized as the best feature film at the Eurasian Film Festival in New York (New York EURASIAN Film Festival).

In 2016, Astana Film Fund was established, one of the leaders of which is Akan Satayev.

Ernar Kurmashev

Founder of the most advanced studio in the field of computer graphics – KCG.

Ernar Kurmashev was born in Kentau. He got an honors degree in Engineering at Satpayev Kazakh National Technical University.

After graduation, he completed an internship at the New York Film Academy based on the studio Universal Studios Hollywood majoring in Filmmaking (2009). Since 2006, he has taken a number of courses in business management and planning in schools such as ABB University, Helsinki Training Center, National Innovation Found, Training Center, KIMEP Training Center.

Ernar Kurmashev is engaged in the development and production of feature and animation films and the development of computer graphics in Kazakhstan. He is engaged in producing activities in the field of feature and animation films, too.

In 2007, he founded the full-cycle computer graphics studio KCG to create 3D animation products and produce visual effects (VFX).

At the KCG studio the animation project which got the international award TEFI and was nominated as the Best Animation at the International Television Festival TEFI – Commonwealth 2015 was implemented.

Since 2015, he has been a member of the Nur Otan Party confidently following the path chosen by Nursultan Nazarbayev.

Lilia Kim

Writer, screenwriter, blogger, founder of the Storytellers Club, WGA West.

The only Russian full member of the Writers Guild of America.

At the age of 19, Lilia Kim  wrote her first book from the series The Bible-Millenium, a scandalous interpretation of the stories of the Old Testament in a modern way. In total, under her own name and pseudonyms, Lilia Kim wrote 52 books of  the popular series, with a total circulation of 3.5 million copies.

For seven years she created prime-time TV series for Russian television. She wrote the script for the series Cream that became the international franchise of Sony and was shown in 43 countries of the world, and for the series that received TEFI and Golden Eagle. In 2015, Lily was invited to continue her career in the USA.

She is currently writing scripts for Hollywood feature films and TV series, and she has the screenwriting courses at the University of California (UCLA) and the New York Film Academy (NYFA) under her belt.
